AIR TRAFFIC CONTROL INDUSTRY

Air traffic control (ATC) towers are equipped with highly reliable, long-lasting industrial displays that increase visibility for air traffic controllers as they organize and expedite air traffic, prevent collisions and provide air-support for pilots.

The FAA equips ATC towers with industrial technology for their surveillance display system. Industrial displays are utilized over their commercial counterparts because they are engineered for locations with frequent vibrations and foreign dust/debris. The industrial design reduces the need for maintenance, repair or replacement; making them a reliable and durable solution for the FAA.

The industrial monitors in ATC towers are typically made of powder coated aluminum and designed to meet NEMA 1 or NEMA 12 standards. This ensures that the internal components are protected from dust, falling dirt, indirect splashing and in some classes, dripping non-corrosive liquids. These industrial monitors are resistant to drip, dust and rust.

Industrial monitors in air traffic control towers must offer operators exceptional readability and control as they monitor plan paths and intersection points. As such, they can be mounted using a VESA mounting pattern or from the side to increase accessibility and viewability.

For high visibility, industrial monitors are available in 20.1”, 21.5” and 24”. They feature high definition multi-touch touchscreens with 1280×1024 or 1920×1080 resolution and high brightness levels. For optimal control, industrial displays also come standard with integrated touch sensitive touch screens (PCAP/PCT), which offers enhanced touch sensitivity. They can also be upgraded to feature Night Vision Imaging Systems, allowing operators to easily view the screens while wearing night vision goggles.
